The word ‘legacy’ often conjures up an image of huge fortunes.  Quite simply however, it means leaving a part of your money or personal possessions to a specific person or charity.  It can be as little or as much as you wish.   Although the Rainbow Centre has received just a small number of legacies over the years, we realise the tremendous fortune of such gifts, and how they have played a vital part in the growth of the Centre and our ability to continue providing help free of charge.

We asked one of our supporters, Margaret why she has chosen to leave a legacy to The Rainbow Centre “Adding the Rainbow Centre to my Will was easy, I just told the solicitors what changes I wanted and it cost about £50 to update it.  Charities need to know that monies will be available in the future.  Hopefully my own children and grandchildren will be better off than those who need the help of the charities I bequeath to.  I like to feel that I will still be doing some good for others even after I am dead.”

If you would like more information about leaving a legacy to the Rainbow Centre please ask for one of our leaflets.

We would always recommend you consult a solicitor when you are considering changing your will in any way. However  the following wording may be useful if you are considering leaving a gift to The Rainbow Centre for Children:

This gift shall not fail if at my death the charity has changed its name or ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another charity or has become the subject of a scheme and my executors or trustees shall pay it to the charitable organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects I intended to benefit.

Gift of specific property or item

I give [name of property or clear description of item you wish to give] to the Rainbow Centre for Children, Registered Charity Number 1120461 and I declare that a receipt given by a person who appears to be a proper officer of the charity shall be a discharge to my Executors or Trustees.

This gift shall not fail if at my death the charity has changed its name or ceased to exist or has amalgamated with another charity or has become the subject of a scheme and my executors or trustees shall pay it to the charitable organisation which they consider most nearly fulfils the objects I intended to benefit.

Gift of residuary estate

I give the residue of my estate to Rainbow Centre for Children, Registered Charity Number 1120461 and I declare that a receipt given by a person who appears to be a proper officer of the charity shall be a discharge to my Executors or Trustees.

You can help us in the future.   Leaving a legacy to a charity costs nothing in your lifetime and helps to ensure that our children of the future, who are faced with the devastating consequences of life threatening illness and the death of loved ones, continue to receive our help.  Even the smallest of gifts goes a long way to ensuring that the work continues.
