Situated in a quiet residential area of Bristol, The Rainbow Centre provides a haven of peace for children and their families across the South West who are suffering from the effects of bereavement, cancer and life-threatening illness. The children and their families are supported through Play, Music and Art Therapy, Counselling, Homoeopathy, Massage Therapy and group work. Many of the therapies that we use provide a valuable means of non-verbal communication. Art, Play or Music Therapy can help children, adolescents and even adults to express and explore difficult feelings, like sadness, pain, anger or guilt. We believe it is very important that we can also provide therapy for the parent(s)/carer(s) who themselves are grieving at the same time as supporting their child. We can help them understand some of the complexities and differences in grief responses, so that they can feel able to care for their child in the best possible way. We provide this help by offering parents counselling, homoeopathy or massage sessions, dependent upon each family’s circumstances. We do not work to a fixed timescale, but work with families for as long as they need our help. All our services to families are provided free of charge, as meeting the true costs would be beyond the scope of most families and, as a registered charity, which receives neither government nor lottery funding, we depend entirely upon the generosity of our donors to provide the funds needed to cover our costs each year. Every donation helps to make a difference to children and their families. We ask that all our clients self refer.
